In Year Fair Access Protocols – Primary and Secondary Schools

Please find attached the In Year Fair Access Protocols for Primary and Secondary Schools for the 2024/5 Academic Year.  These documents have been reviewed in line with panel member comments during the 2023/4 academic year, and the primary scheme has now been aligned with the secondary scheme.  Whilst a small number of secondary colleagues made reference to reinvigorating the inclusion of Managed Moves within the In Year Fair Access Protocol/for discussion at In Year Fair Access Panel meetings, all reference to managed moves was removed from the School Admissions Code and do not form part of the In Year Fair Access Protocol.  Should Head Teachers wish to arrange managed moves, they should be facilitated direct between schools.  All documentation regarding In Year Fair Access will also very shortly be available on the HBC internet via the following link: Change of school (halton.gov.uk)

Further opportunity for Free Team Teach training

As well as the whole school training on offer via the DBV funding we are offering a 3 hour bespoke workshop also. This is designed to ‘mop up’ the odd member of staff who needs training, but we want to go further and offer it out to Governors as well. We feel the legal element would be beneficial to them.

All site staff are invited to attend including premise managers, lunchtime supervisors and office staff. I know that sometime it might be the case non-teaching staff are in a position of de-escalation and the language used will be important. The course will cover:

  • Understand behaviour is communication.
  • What do I bring to the room
  • Understanding the environment
  • Positive Behaviour supports.
  • It will be a 3-hour workshop delivered by TEAM Teach global director Jonathan Newport.

DBV Work with Stakeholder Work Around Anxiety or a Mental Health

As part to the work around DBV (Delivering Better Value), Dr Rhona Hobson Principal EP and the Clinical director of PCN (Primary Care Network NHS) have been working together to ensure all partners are working together to support a miscommunication across services which has resulted in parents using letters from their GP’s to state anxiety or a mental health concern for their child which is resulting in non attendance. CPD work with all practices across Halton has taken place to ensure a consistent approach and message is given.

Attached is a letter which has been write by the clinical director of PCN for schools. Further information can be sort via mike.stapleton-chambers@halton.gov.uk
