- Consultation Events for Education on Transition to Multi-Agency Safeguarding Arrangements
- Wednesday 3rd October, 8.00 – 10.00am, Council Chamber, Runcorn Town Hall
- Wednesday 10th October, 2 – 4pm, Daisy & Daffodil Rooms, Warrington Rd Children’s Centre
In order to undertake the transition from Local Safeguarding Children Board to Multi-Agency Safeguarding Arrangement in Halton we are holding a number of consultation workshops with partners. Due to the importance of schools and colleges as relevant agencies under the new arrangements, we are holding bespoke events for the Education Sector. We would like at least one representative from each school and college in Halton to attend the consultation events which will consider how the new arrangements engage with relevant agencies, how we will independently scrutinise the effectiveness of safeguarding arrangements in Halton and how priority areas for the new arrangements to focus upon will be identified from local intelligence.
Please confirm attendance at one of the workshops by emailing Safeguarding.Training@halton.gov.uk ensuring that job role and contact details are included. There will be information sent out prior to each consultation workshop in order to ensure that attendees are able to a participate fully, particularly where attendees may not have been involved in the work of the LSCB recently.
If you are unable to attend the dates specifically for the Education Sector you are welcome to attend one of the generic multi-agency consultation events on:
- Monday 17th September, 2-4pm, Council Chamber, Runcorn Town Hall
- Friday 21st September, 9.30 – 11.30am, Meeting Rm 13, Kingsway Learning Centre

Dear Halton SACRE colleagues
I am pleased to share with you our 2018/19 Islam assemblies, workshops and staff training flyer for distribution to schools in your area.
In 2017/18, we had an excellent response for Islam assemblies and workshops from schools in Cumbria, Cheshire West and Chester, Manchester, Salford, Cheshire East and Sefton,
It would be great if schools in other regions were also made aware of Muslim Learner Services and the range of services available in relation to assemblies, workshops and training to enhance pupils’ RE experience, support multi-faith and cultural days/weeks etc.
In case it is helpful, the email below was sent to all schools in Cumbria, which I am happy for you to use with schools in your area.

Dear Colleagues
I am pleased to be able to email you with details, resources and a toolkit relating to Interfaith Week 2018. On behalf of Halton SACRE I hope that colleagues will plan to engage pupils and students in activities that will engage with the week’s aims;
- Strengthen good inter faith relations at all levels
- Increase awareness of the different and distinct faith communities in the UK, in particular celebrating and building on the contribution which their members make to their neighbourhoods and to wider society
- Increase understanding between people of religious and non-religious beliefs
If you would like to invite a member of Halton SACRE into your school either during the week or to celebrate teaching and learning experiences in RE as a whole, please email Carole Furbank, Clerk to Halton SACRE.
Religious Education Network Meeting
Applies to – All Schools
Status – Information
Halton and Warrington Religious Education Network Meeting
Date; Thursday November 29th 1430 – 1600.
Venue; St Werburgh’s PDC, Boswell Avenue, Warrington, WA4 6DQ
The network meeting will be an excellent opportunity to work with Imran Kotwal. Imran is the founder of Muslim Learner Services, (www.muslimlearnerservices.org) an organisation set up over three years ago to promote a better understanding of Islam and British Muslims in schools. Imran does this through engaging assemblies, workshops and staff training. He promotes British values of respect and tolerance for all through interactive and engaging Islam assemblies, workshops and staff training.
Imran has worked with many schools in the North West of England and the feedback has been excellent, particularly for work in promoting respect and tolerance, outstanding Islam RE workshops, tackling Islamophobia and preventing radicalisation. Imran’s work was recently highlighted in several local newspapers for tacking misconceptions about Islam and Muslims in Britain.
Imran will deliver an engaging workshop as well as providing the opportunity for an additional question and answer session. By attending the meeting colleagues will develop their subject knowledge and increase their confidence when teaching Islam to pupils. We will initially look at the origins of the five pillars of Islam through the famous tradition of Angel Gabriel. This will be followed by a full workshop exploring over twenty Islamic artefacts, how they are used by Muslims today and how they link to the five pillars of Islam. There will be lots of opportunities to ask questions throughout the training session. This is an excellent opportunity to check subject knowledge, tackle misconceptions and enjoy teaching Islam!
Please note: delegates are welcome to email imran@Muslimlearnerservices.org in advance of the training with any particular subject content or questions they would like him to include in the training session.
We hope your school will be represented at the network meeting and encourage teachers to register early at www.myschoolservices.co.uk
