Dear Colleague

Since the advent of GDPR last year we have seen many employers move towards the issuing of a standard reference containing only minimal information.

Your school’s privacy notice that applies to the processing of personal data for HR purposes whilst a person is in the school’s employment it is linked to the operation of the school and not those of another employer.

The easiest way to view this is that your school has no  consent to share personal data either (a) once employment has ended, or (b) with a prospective employer of one of the school’s current members of staff.  Even where a Headteacher etc.  is quoted as a referee on an application to another employer, that in itself is not consent to release personal data.

I would therefore recommend that only minimal data is shared when reference requests are responded to.

If you have any queries, please let me know.

Applies to – All schools

From 1st – 6th July Halton Libraries are running the first Halton Readathon to celebrate and promote Reading for Pleasure.

We will be running ‘Read in the Library’ and ‘Read in the Park’ sessions that schools can book into or you can run a ‘Read in School’ activity and register your minutes with us.
