School term calendar 2021-2022

Dear Colleagues

Following updates from the DfE with regards to the additional bank holiday in June 2022, we can now confirm that the 2021-22 school term calendar in Halton will be reduced from 190 to 189 contact days (195 to 194 teacher days). We have updated our website to reflect this and to provide a message to parents/carers.

All schools are permitted to identify the extra holiday day themselves and we would ask that you do so at the earliest opportunity, and write to your parents/carers to advise (if you have not already done so), in order to give parents/carers as much notice as possible of the additional holiday. You will also need to update your school’s own website to reflect the position for your school.

Funding for autism in secondary schools

The attached flyer gives information about a fund set up by Sheila Coates Foundation to support autistic young people in mainstream education in the North West region of England. The fund specifically targets issues highlighted in recent reports and offers awards of £1,000 and £5,000. This is the third round of COVID-specific funding.

More information at  www.sheilacoates.foundation/covid-fund  The fund is open for applications from schools and colleges from 27th September, with a deadline of 15th October 2021. If you have any queries please contact mary.hartshorne@sheilacoates.foundation

DfE-funded grant

Headteachers are reminded that they are eligible to apply for the DfE-funded grant for training for a Mental Health Lead. The DfE have now published the list of approved providers and all information about the grant can be found here . Although the DfE have said that this will be a 3-year rollout, they have only guaranteed funding for the first year so schools who have capacity to undertake this training this year are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible.

If schools are already involved in this project or want support in order to become involved, please can they let HBSS know via emailing Vanessa.nice@halton.gov.uk

Please also remember that MHFA training for all staff can be arranged through HBSS and information can be found here .
