Managing Behaviour in Schools

Applies to-All schools

OFSTED have been undertaking a project on “Managing Behaviour in Schools” and their findings to date have been summarised in a report by OFSTED Chief Inspector, Amanda Spielman.  The report covers a range of issues including low-level disruption and its impact, consistency and explicit teaching, types of behaviour strategies, the link to the new inspection framework, the role of parents and the importance of transition. I have attached this document for your information.

This is a key priority for us within the borough and we are delighted to announce that for our termly inclusion conference with schools on 8th October we have managed to secure the Government’s Behaviour “Czar”, Tom Bennett as a key speaker.  Some of you may have heard Tom interviewed on Radio 4 on Thursday, 12th September 2019 on his approach to managing effective behaviour.  Unfortunately we can only extend the invitation to 2 members of each school the Headteacher and either the Chair of Governors or another member of school staff can attend this important event.

Please see attached the full report from Amanda Spielman

RRS Sir David Attenborough – Ice Worlds – Schools Day

Applies to-All schools

British Antarctic Survey and Cammell Laird invite you to celebrate the ceremonial naming of the RRS Sir David Attenborough.  Bring your students to Ice Worlds – an immersive and exciting festival of discovery to celebrate the official naming of the new polar research ship for Britain.  We hope this event inspires young people and gives them a glimpse of what their future might be.  There are plenty of free resource materials for teachers too.

We are asking all schools to register online via Eventbrite (click here) to reserve places. Maximum number of students is 50 per school and these places are first come first served.

There are three sessions at the following times:

09:30 – 11:30

11:30 – 13:30

13:30 – 15:30

Each session consists of a presentation and a tour of interactive ‘engagement stations’. More information is included on the attached document.

Whilst the event is suitable for students of all ages, it will be particularly relevant to KS3 and GCSE students studying science, engineering and climate change.

If you do have any accessibility requirements you can note this on your registration form.

Applies to-All schools

Schools, nurseries, colleges and family centres can now register for UK Road Safety Week 2019 (18-24 November) at www.roadsafetyweek.org.uk/educators. Coordinated by charity Brake, the Week is a great opportunity to engage children of all ages with road safety by using free resources. These include assembly slides, lesson plans, guidance sheets, activity sheets, posters and digital content such as videos and games. This year’s theme of Step up for Safe Streets aims to raise awareness about how young people can step up and learn how to create a safe and healthy future and shout out for change.
