Resetting Huawei routers before 16 July 2021
Dear colleague,
4G wireless routers were provided by the Department for Education (DfE) to support online access to social care and remote education during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The SIM cards included with 4G wireless routers will provide data until the end of July 2021.
You must reset all Huawei routers before 16 July 2021. If you do not do this, you’ll be unable to use another SIM card when the data runs out.
If you cannot connect to the internet
Our records show that a SIM card that came with your routers is barred. This usually happens if an attempt was made to use the SIM with a different device. You will not be able to connect to the internet using your router if the SIM is barred.
If you’re unable to connect, log in to the Support Portal and select the MiFi dashboard to see the status of your SIM card.
If your SIM card is barred, ask your local authority or trust to raise a support request to reactivate the SIM card. Contact us if you’re unsure who to ask.
You’ll need to do this before you can reset the router.
Academy trusts and local authorities
If your trust or local authority arranged for the routers to be distributed by schools, colleges, further education institutions or social workers, you’ll need to forward this email to the nominated contact.
