Survey Launch:  Potential Enhancements to the MHST Offer

Dear Regional & National CYP Leads

The MHST programme is considering potential future enhancements to the MHST offer, including the range of children and young people’s mental health and emotional wellbeing needs which are supported.  Along with using learning to date, we are keen to scope and prioritise the potential enhancements and are therefore launching a scoping survey which will run to 30 June 2023.  This is a brief survey focussing on clinical need and it covers both low and high intensity needs, so we suggest reading all questions before responding.

We’d be grateful if you could circulate this to your local MHST contacts and delivery partners.  We are keen to hear from as many stakeholders as possible including MHSTs, education settings, ICB leads, specialist provider leads, regions etc. and if possible children and young people and their parents/carers.

We will be reviewing the full MHST service offer, across all functions, but the scope of this survey is predominantly function 1 (interventions for mild to moderate mental health needs) and as such we appreciate some of the language is clinical in nature.

Many thanks for your support as we look for possible future programme enhancements to further meet the needs of children and young people.

Please note that this is not an indication that future programme expansion as been confirmed, rather we are considering possible developments to the breadth of the service offer, both for existing and any (to be confirmed) future teams beyond Wave 10.

Do feel free to contact me if you have any queries but hopefully this is the start of a useful exploratory conversation.

HENRY – new programme for families, launching soon in Halton

In Halton we have an exciting new programme, for families with children aged 0-5years, starting in September, with standalone workshops also available, starting this summer.

HENRY – Right From the Start, 8-week programme is for parents/carers. Crèche places will be available at some venues. The programme will be delivered in partnership by Halton Health Improvement Team and Bridgewater 0-19 Team.

HENRY has the strongest available evidence base for any national initiative aimed at supporting a healthy start from birth to age 12. Several independent clinical studies have shown that both parents and children make and sustain ‘statistically significant’ lifestyle changes including increased consumption of fruit and vegetables, decreased consumption of energy-dense food, increase physical activity levels, increased parenting efficacy, increased emotional wellbeing, and improved lifestyle habits. A pilot Randomised Control Trial (RCT) of HENRY programmes found that children had a trend for BMI z-score reduction towards an ideal weight. ~ Henry website https://www.henry.org.uk/whychoosehenry

You are invited to attend this briefing meeting to learn a bit more about HENRY, who would benefit from the workshops and how to refer into the service.

Please share this invitation with any colleagues/partners that you feel would benefit from attending.
