Space in Schools Expressions of Interest Event
Funded by the UK Space Agency, this continuing professional development scheme is designed for upper KS2 primary teachers.
Through a series of online and in person workshops, teachers will discover how to engage pupils with the Times Higher Award winning “Into Our Skies: Space in Schools” scheme of work.
This scheme will help teachers enthuse their pupils with knowledge beyond the curriculum, and inspire pupils through their awareness of space-related careers and speaking with STEM ambassadors.
The programme will include three CPD sessions:
- Discovering the curriculum through dance (online)
- Exploring STEAM-in-Space classroom activities, careers and beyond (online)
- Exploring Into Our Skies: Space in Schools (in person)

Wraparound Childcare
Wraparound Care – An update
As the newly appointed Wraparound Care Strategic Coordinator for Halton, I am delighted to be working collaboratively with teams across the local authority and working with schools, families and childcare providers to expand Halton’s wraparound childcare provision so that is more accessible to children and families, including those with SEND.
In February 2024, directives were unveiled by the DfE as part of its wider £289m Wraparound Childcare Pathfinder initiative. Schools and Multi-Academy Trusts have been tasked with increased responsibility in ensuring accessible and high-quality wraparound childcare.
Why is this important?
The DfE highlights that there are many benefits to wraparound childcare, for children, families and schools.
The benefits vary, but may include:
- enabling parents to work or study
- supporting vulnerable children
- offering enriching activities that children enjoy
- attracting parents to the school
- supporting a soft start to the school day and attendance
- investing fees into the school or community facilities
It’s thanks to your support that we have now been able to begin to analyse the supply and demand of wraparound care places. Last term we received 480 responses to the DfE survey from parents from 23 different schools. We now know that there is demand for high-quality wraparound childcare places.

Ofsted Briefing – EYFS
15th July 2024 | 10am-11am | @ DBCL Stadium
School Improvement Halton have invited Tim Vaughan HMI to talk about Ofsted and EYFS
During the briefing Tim will look at all stakeholder responsibilities and how this forms judgements around EYFS during inspections.
Tim Vaughan, HMI, maintained schools and academies
Tim holds qualified teacher status and previously worked in leadership roles in maintained nursery schools, primary schools and children’s centres. He held a senior role for a local authority and worked as an adviser for the Department for Education. He has extensive experience of inspection, investigation and survey work across nursery, infant and primary schools, children’s centres, teacher training and early years. Tim contributes to the training of inspectors. Tim holds a BEd (Hons) and a Master’s in Early Childhood Education with Care. He is qualified at level 7 in investigative practice. Tim qualified as a headteacher and is trained in leadership development. He has advised nationally on this topic and has taught about leadership at postgraduate level.
